June 1st Lightning

Pretty spectacular lightning show last night.
Couldn't abandon the family and go chasing after a better location so I shot it from the driveway.
I little un-nerving to be holding onto a metal tripod with this going on but it was an impressive sight.

Yellow and other colours

Glad I stumbled upon this little scene.
Great colours, great lines, one dead bug and dew drops. What more could you ask for?

And do you think our wet spring has maybe resulted in a few dandelions this year?

Beautiful deterioration.

obvious / hidden

The obvious beauty of a rolling green field and the hidden beauty waiting in the dark under a railway bridge. The brilliant green field is a view from Greenhill look-off, and the underside of the railway bridge is in downtown New Glasgow.

Pond Details

Two images of ponds and the plants that pierce the surface but not the calm.

Detail of bull-rushes in my backyard early last winter. The snow has folded them down and woven them into this pattern... amazing how nature could produce lines and angles so crisp and straight.
Full resolution file shows a great frost pattern covering the stalks.

Lots of details in this shot from Park Falls last winter. Icy and beautiful...the piece of wood and the rock with the golden accents just seem to be trying to hold on until spring.

Some beach work

Some long(ish) exposures at the beach. The driftwood was photographed at Melmerby Beach....8 second exposure. The brilliant green rocks photographed on the beach at Pictou Lodge while I was shooting a wedding... shot long after sunset, 25 second exposures.

Canada Day 2010.... Fireworks lighting up the crowd at New Glasgow Square

Pano's

A trio of panoramic shots. First up is Peggy's Cove - 5 shots combined to make this image.... shot in mid February in fairly high winds with a windchill of about -20...by shot number 4 my eyes were watering so bad I couldn't really see what I was doing.
Next is another 5 or 6 shot image shot near my home in New Glasgow. There are 13 deer in this image in total...but you might need to see a big print to spot them all.
Last pic is a true panoramic shot.... one exposure on a piece of film with a pinhole camera. no lens, just a pinhole....exposed for about 12 seconds. Holga Pinhole Wide.

V-Filling Station shoot

Playing around with a couple of beautiful machines in the setting sun at the perfect location to showcase these toys.

A Fall colour scene along the East River in New Glasgow NS. the little shed couldn't be more in tune with the seasons colour gamut.

What isn't being contrasted here? Brick versus wood, red versus green.
I think the composition has great balance both in texture and colour.

I love this shot.......simple detail of some plain grey concrete steps..... flip them upside down and wow.

Dew drops on some webbing...a pretty little universe.

Lovely waterfall detail from the Greenvale area of NS. I like the change in direction at the dark rock.
this was about a 4 second exposure.

Another favorite of mine. An old tree in a park here in New Glasgow NS. The big knot hole in the tree has become home to some sort of white mushroom like fungus... it looks great against the dark rough bark.

This was a film original shot on a 6x6
Twin Lens Reflex camera.

A couple of vintage looking warm tone black and whites of water in different states. The first shot is ice at Peggy's Cove NS, smoothed down and neatly fitted together from bumping into each other. The second shot is a detail from a brook just outside of Antigonish NS. The 3 second exposure gave me nice soft water set against the hard rock and sharp spikes of grass.
